The 10 skills
1. Knowing what good looks like. So you can reject a polished wrong answer in ten seconds. AI produces finished-looking work; the judgement is yours.
2. The question behind the question. Clients ask for a website when they need bookings. AI answers what was asked. You hear what was meant.
3. Pricing. Value, nerve and context. No model knows what your market will bear this month.
4. Saying no. To bad-fit clients, scope creep, and shiny tools. The most profitable skill on the list.
5. Reading a room. On a call, in a negotiation, at the school gate. Text in, text out can't do it.
6. Checking the number before it leaves. Names, numbers, dates. The 30-second habit that protects your name.
7. Being trusted. People buy from people they've watched behave well over time. It compounds and can't be generated.
8. Taste. Your standard for what's good enough to ship. AI raises the floor; taste sets the ceiling.
9. Owning the outcome. Accountability is the product. Nobody refunds 'the AI did it'.
10. Knowing what you refuse to hand over. The owners who thrive with AI aren't the most technical. They're the clearest on this line.
