What is NotebookLM?

Most AI chatbots answer from the whole internet. That is great for general questions, but it means they can guess, mix up sources, and make things up. NotebookLM works the other way round. It only knows what you give it: your documents, your notes, your transcripts. Ask a question and every answer comes straight from your material, with a citation you can click to see exactly where it came from.

Say you run a small business, Acme Wellness. You upload your service list, your pricing sheet, and last month's client notes. Now you can ask "which clients booked more than one service" or "what did we quote for the corporate package" and get a grounded answer in seconds, pulled from your own files rather than a guess off the internet. It is free to start, and you do not write a single line of code.

Who it's for.

If you keep important information in documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, or meeting notes, and you waste time hunting through them, this is for you. Coaches and consultants use it to prep for calls. Owners use it to answer their own pricing and policy questions fast. Anyone drowning in files who wants a straight answer, with the receipt, gets the most out of it.

The 3 steps.

1
Create a notebook
Go to notebooklm.google.com, sign in with your Google account, and start a new notebook. You get 3 columns: sources on the left, the chat in the middle, and studio tools like mind maps on the right.
2
Add your sources
Drop in your files: PDFs, Google Docs, a pasted transcript, even a website link. These become the only thing the notebook knows. Nothing else leaks in.
3
Ask questions, get cited answers
Type a question in the chat. NotebookLM answers from your sources and drops a numbered citation next to each claim. Click it and you jump straight to the exact line in the original file.

Feed it a prospect's notes and transcripts, then pull the key points before the call.

Pricing research

Load your quotes and past deals, then ask what you charged and when.

Mind maps

Turn a dense report into a visual map you can actually skim.

Draft replies

Ask it to draft an answer to a client question, grounded in your own docs.
